These 3D printed porcelain/resin sculptures are based on my ‘darkroom drawings’.  I’m exaggerating the meshing used to construct the digital renderings and this visible relief line work becomes decorative as well as structural. The 3D printed sculptures are then fired in a kiln making them 100% porcelain. Sumi ink is a material I return to in my work and here I am using it as a cold finish on the porcelain pieces. Sumi ink and porcelain have been used for thousands of years and I’m enjoying contrasting the newer language of the digital in their construction and decoration with these ancient materials.
